The worst place you could ever buy your Alpaca So Be Warned!
On the face of it Lakeland Alpaca Stud seems a very friendly place with Alpacas of all sizes everywhere.
And everything is fine until you have a problem and then you will see a different side to the owners who will deny any personal responsibility and lie to your face.
We bought two female Alpacas, Gladys a four year old, and Jennifer a young 9 month old. Being newbies to the Alpaca world we took the animals assuming that there were fit and well.
But very soon after getting the animals home it became apparent that the young Alpaca Jennifer was not in good health.
I enquired from the owners as to when they were next due for worming and was told there was still about 6 weeks before they were due again for Drenching (wormer)
Soon after though Jennifer could not even stand up, and we rushed her to our local vets.
Test showed she was very anemic and also had a high worm count, but the vet told us that the animal was extremely underweight for its age, although her weight had not changed from our purchase date as the animal arrive this size.
The Vet wormed our Alpaca, but there was little else he could do.
I informed the owners of Lakeland Alpacas Stud and they did supply a few more injections to try and boost appetite, but sadly it was too late for our little Jennifer and she died a few days later.
I let Lakeland Alpaca Stud know that Jennifer had died.
As a token gesture I was offered a 12 year old female Alpaca called Alice.
I think because I dared to ask on the phone if they had a younger female from the hundreds that are on their farm and Jennifer was only 9 month old and we wanted to train her and wanted her to be friendly in the company of humans. I was told that Alice was the only option they had to offer, followed by saying that there were not obliged to offer us anything at all.
Despite the vet saying the animal was mal-nutritious, underweight anemic and in poor condition from day one, it was not there problem.
And to top things off, the offer of having the 12 year old Alpaca was then very quickly withdrawn just hours after it been offered to us. How Heartless are these people.
Their excuses were all just a pack of lies and fiction.
It was a very emotional time having just lost a beautiful little Alpaca the last thing you want to get from the place you purchased your pet is a pack of what were very obvious lies.
So don’t trust the owners, and if you still decide to buy from Lakeland Alpaca Stud make sure you get your animals vet checked before you hand over your hard earned cash.
Gladys still needs a companion, but I know I will be going elsewhere for our next Alpaca.

Thanks for the review Robin, for which most of what you say is untrue and you know it.
Firstly you didn't mention she died of barbers pole worm after being at your property for nearly 6 weeks! Barberspole can kill in less than 2 weeks and we tested all our herd after your call and the tests came back negative for barberspole so she must have picked it up from your place.
Secondly you called us and told us the vet said she had good weight and the only thing it could be is barberspole.
Interesting how you say she was underweight but the same weight as when you got her, so you checked her weight everyday? but didn't feed her more if you thought she was underweight? Because she wasn't and you know that.
I'm not going to waste too much time explaining all the things you say happened but I think the hundreds of happy customers we have against just one disgruntled person that is entitled to their opinion weather true or NOT is worth going into.
I will say one last thing and that is anyone who know us knows we go out of our way to help and make any purchase from us as enjoyable as possible and we help many people out that lose their lovely alpacas to worms or anything else. We care a lot about our animals and one look at our farm will tell you that. The one thing you did say that I agree with is yes if you should get a vet to run a health check on any animal you purchase from us or from anyone else.
Unfortunately this still won't stop people saying anything they like about you on the Internet! Even if it's not true!!!
